There's no doubt that during Edwardian times it was the fishing which made us famous - certainly amongst those who discovered the secret route to Stanley.
The "catch" phrase amongst guests was:
"Catch a fish, have a good time. Don't catch a fish, and have a better time, while reflecting ....... that no man can lose what he never had."
Here at The Tayside Hotel we can arrange Salmon fishing on several of the more well-known beats of The Mighty River Tay. Availability can be limited so if you are interested contact us with your preferred dates and we’ll do the leg-work for you - we can even arrange for transport to & form the beat as well as the provision of rods and waders too!
We'd like to think that the hot, 3-course meals we can deliver to your fishing beat are more than your traditional picnic!
From sandwich platters, baguettes and baked potatoes to full three-course meals including favourites such as steak pie, lasagne and fish pie, and with all the crockery supplied we have a wealth of experience providing freshly prepared food direct to the beat hut of your choosing - and you don't have to be a Hotel guest to order one!
We can also supply a comprehensive range of soft drinks and alcoholic ones too, from malt whisky to fine wines, champagnes and beers.
If you are a Guest with us at the Tayside we can also provide you with light packed lunches to take away with you after breakfast, with or without a flask of hot soup!

Shooting & Stalking
Many types of shooting, stalking and hunting are available in the immediate area and the hotel can help put together a great package for an individual or a group.
Do enquire in advance as, while you can shoot something in Scotland 365 days a year, some opportunities are seasonal. You will be required to observe certain formalities if you are bringing guns, especially from overseas. We work with local agents so the more notice you can provide the better the chance of avoiding disappointment. In some cases a minimum number of participants is required however by working with the local agents we may be able to join you with another group.
Choose from first class bird shooting with driven pheasant and grouse, rough shooting, woodcock and some unbelievable goose shooting. There is also deer stalking for red, roe, sika and fallow deer. Don't forget to combine your field sports with one of the wealth of other sporting activities available in the locality such as golf, fishing, hill walking and Munro climbing.
